A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election prospects, claiming that politicians across party lines are rallying behind the President’s second-term ambition.
Kwankwaso, who also serves as Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, made the remarks following the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council on Wednesday.
He attributed what he described as growing support for Tinubu to the participation of politicians from different political parties at the event, including members and supporters associated with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Labour Party.
According to him, the development reflects an emerging political alignment that extends beyond the APC, suggesting that Tinubu’s leadership and policy direction are attracting support from individuals who previously belonged to opposing political camps.
Kwankwaso also referenced comments attributed to prominent political figures, including Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, arguing that the President’s economic policies would be better understood by people familiar with economic management and global realities.
He described the gathering as an unusual development in Nigeria’s political history, claiming that Tinubu had succeeded in bringing together politicians who had previously struggled to find common ground.
“It has never happened in Nigerian political history that one man attracts a collection of nearly all opposition parties—not just opposition politicians, but people who have never agreed to sit together. Because of Tinubu, they have accepted to come on board and pursue a common goal,” he said.
The APC chieftain argued that discussions about Tinubu’s second-term ambition should go beyond electoral calculations to consider the country’s long-term economic prospects.
While acknowledging the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians, Kwankwaso maintained that the President remained committed to implementing his administration’s policies and achieving its stated objectives.
He described the inauguration of the campaign council as a demonstration of political support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“For me, the inauguration of the Campaign Council is just like a congregation celebrating President Tinubu’s re-election. What else remains when the same Nigerians we intend to campaign for have collectively come forward in unison for one person—Tinubu?” Kwankwaso said.
Kwankwaso Predicts Political Realignment in Kano
Turning to Kano State, Kwankwaso expressed optimism that the political cooperation he described at the national level would also translate into stronger support for Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He cited Tinubu’s public recognition of Yusuf, including the symbolic presentation of a cap, as a development he believes could strengthen the Kano governor’s political prospects.
Kwankwaso consequently expressed confidence in the re-election prospects of Yusuf and his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo.
He further claimed that influential political figures in Kano were working towards a common goal of supporting the re-election bids of both Tinubu and Yusuf.
Those he mentioned included Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin; Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi; Alhassan Ado Doguwa; Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa; Senator Kawu Sumaila; former Kano State Governor and former APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former Kano Central Senator Ibrahim Shekarau; and Alhassan Rirum.
According to Kwankwaso, the cooperation among these political figures reflects a shared commitment to securing another term for Tinubu at the federal level and Yusuf in Kano State.
He concluded by expressing confidence that the APC would secure substantial support across Northern Nigeria, adding that efforts were underway to consolidate the region’s votes behind the President ahead of the next general election.
