The Coordinator of the Public Enlightenment Movement, Nuhu Abdullahi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as “real and measurable progress” in Northern Nigeria since the beginning of the administration.
Speaking at a media briefing in Kano attended by journalists, Kannywood personalities, and social media influencers, Abdullahi said the group’s mission was to inform citizens about federal government efforts in the region, and to counter misinformation.
“This is not about politics. We are here to talk about facts and what the people can see with their eyes. Progress is happening, and we need to recognize it,”
He listed several key federal projects across the North that have seen significant progress:
The Kano-Kaduna Railway, which was at 15% under the previous administration, now stands at 53% completion.
The AKK Gas Pipeline is now 83% complete, a leap from minimal work previously.
The Kano-Maradi Railway has moved from 5% to 60%, with the potential to open up trade with Niger Republic.
Over 500,000 Nigerians have benefitted from the newly established NELFUND education loan scheme.
The ongoing Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Expressway has seen 140km under construction in the first phase.
Renewed Hope Housing Estates are underway, while food prices have reportedly reduced.
Security in the North, Abdullahi claimed, has improved under Tinubu’s leadership.
Abdullahi also announced a second phase of federal projects that the group will be tracking and promoting as part of its enlightenment campaign. These include:
Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway
Kano and Kaduna Light Rail Projects
Akwanga–Jos–Gombe–Bauchi Road (439km)
Sokoto–Zaria Dual Carriageway (275km, N824bn)
BUA Tax Credit Road (256km across Jigawa, Katsina, Kano)
Zaria-Hunkuyi Road, Kano Northern Bypass, Kano-Maiduguri Road
NASENI innovation centre in Kano
9th Mile–Otukpo–Makurdi Road Dualization (250km)
Livestock RUGA project in Plateau, among others.
He also cited the creation of the Ministry of Livestock as a key policy step to revive the animal husbandry sector in Northern Nigeria.
Abdullahi urged the public to pay attention to ongoing changes rather than be swayed by political sentiments.
“Let us support what is working, not who is in power.
Northern Nigeria is witnessing real development, and we owe it to ourselves to see it, understand it, and build on it,” .
The Public Enlightenment Movement is a non-governmental initiative focused on promoting civic education and awareness of federal development programs in the North.
