The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointments of Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa as Commissioner for Information and former Speaker of the Assembly, Balarabe Sa’idu Gani, as Commissioner for Solid Minerals.

The confirmation followed a screening exercise during Tuesday’s plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had earlier forwarded the names of the two nominees to the Assembly for screening and confirmation to fill vacancies in the respective ministries.

Following the confirmation, the Speaker congratulated Gani, a former presiding officer of the Assembly, on his nomination and subsequent approval.

Speaking after his confirmation, Bature pledged to reposition Kano State-owned media organisations to enhance information dissemination and improve public access to government activities.

He outlined plans to restore the effective operations of Radio Kano, establish an additional television channel for Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV), and provide the necessary manpower and equipment to enable the Triumph Newspaper to resume daily publication.

The new Information Commissioner also assured that he would prioritise strengthening the Ministry of Information and improving the operational capacity of the state’s media institutions.

Meanwhile, the Assembly commenced legislative consideration of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board Bill, 2026, following its successful first reading during the plenary.

The bill will now proceed through the subsequent stages of the legislative process.
