Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called for increased British investment in the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening economic, diplomatic and cultural ties between Kano and the United Kingdom.
The governor made the call on Friday while receiving the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Pete Vowles, who paid him a familiarisation visit at the Government House, Kano.
Yusuf described the longstanding relationship between Kano and the United Kingdom as one built on historical, economic, cultural and diplomatic connections, noting that there was significant potential to expand the partnership for mutual benefit.
He said the High Commissioner’s visit provided an opportunity to deepen existing relations and identify new areas of cooperation capable of accelerating economic growth and development in the state.
The governor specifically appealed to the British Government to support efforts to attract more investors to Kano, stressing that the state offers considerable investment opportunities across several sectors of its economy.
According to him, stronger economic ties and increased foreign investment would stimulate business activities, create employment opportunities and improve the living standards of residents.
Yusuf assured the British delegation that his administration was prepared to provide the necessary support and create an enabling environment for British investors, businesses and development partners willing to explore opportunities in the state.
He further emphasised the need for sustained engagement and collaboration in areas of shared interest, expressing optimism that the visit would pave the way for more concrete partnerships between Kano and the United Kingdom.
In his response, the British High Commissioner, Pete Vowles, acknowledged the historical ties between Kano and the UK and expressed interest in strengthening bilateral engagement while exploring additional opportunities for cooperation.
The visit highlights Kano State’s efforts to expand its international relationships, attract foreign direct investment and position the state as an emerging destination for business, trade and economic partnerships.
