The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has described former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as a pan-Nigerian leader capable of uniting the country, expressing confidence in his presidential ambition ahead of the Jan. 16, 2027 election.

The council’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, stated this in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Grassroots Mobilisation Network (GMN), led by its National Coordinator, Sadiq Adamu Lwafu.

Lwafu said the organisation had commenced a nationwide mobilisation campaign to rally support for Atiku and secure the defeat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls.

He accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of worsening economic hardship, insecurity and threats to democratic governance.

According to him, Nigerians are struggling with rising living costs and growing security concerns, while democratic institutions face increasing pressure.

Lwafu described the ADC as a platform bringing together experienced politicians and Nigerians committed to national development, citing prominent party figures, including David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola and Aminu Tambuwal.

Responding, Ologbondiyan commended the GMN for its grassroots mobilisation efforts and described Atiku as a leader whose political relationships transcend ethnic, religious and regional boundaries.

He accused the Tinubu administration of promoting sectional interests through its appointments, policies and approach to governance, alleging that this had undermined national unity.

“Atiku Abubakar, on the other hand, is a natural Nigerian devoid of ethnic, religious or sectional inclination. He is a leader for all tribes and regions,” Ologbondiyan said.

He argued that Atiku’s family, business and political relationships reflected Nigeria’s diversity and demonstrated his capacity to foster national cohesion.

Ologbondiyan also accused the APC of exploiting ethnic and religious differences for political advantage, rather than prioritising citizens’ welfare and national unity.

He expressed confidence that Nigerians would reject the ruling party in the 2027 general election, insisting that the country needed a change in leadership to address its economic and security challenges.

On economic policy, the ADC-PCC spokesman said an Atiku administration would consider restoring fuel subsidy under a transparent and properly managed framework designed to protect vulnerable Nigerians and stimulate production.

He maintained that Atiku’s policy proposals and economic recovery plans positioned him to address the country’s challenges.

The ADC-PCC assured the GMN of its readiness to collaborate with grassroots organisations and other stakeholders seeking improved governance, national unity and economic recovery.

The claims and policy commitments expressed at the meeting reflected the positions of the ADC-PCC and the GMN ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
