Police Arrest Man for Alleged Attempted Murder, Robbery of Okada Rider in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Bello Abubakar of Ganwo Village, Yauri Local Government Area, over the alleged attempted culpable homicide and robbery of a commercial motorcycle rider.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.

According to Usman, the incident occurred on August 23, 2026, when 22-year-old Bello Umar, a commercial motorcycle rider from Wasagu Village in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, was found with a serious head injury at Tungar Dariya Bush, near Makera Village in Shanga Local Government Area.

The victim was immediately evacuated to Koko General Hospital, where he received medical treatment and was later discharged.

Usman said preliminary investigation revealed that Abubakar allegedly hired Umar’s motorcycle from Koko Town to Tungar Dariya Bush. On reaching the location, the suspect allegedly attacked the rider with a hoe before covering his body with leaves, apparently believing that he had died.

The suspect then allegedly fled the scene with the motorcycle and rode it to Yauri Town.

The PPRO said sustained police investigation led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the subsequent arrest of Abubakar.

He added that the suspect was cooperating with investigators as the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, described the alleged attack as “despicable” and a direct assault on human life and livelihood.

Hadejia assured members of the public that the command would continue to pursue and prosecute individuals who prey on commercial motorcycle riders and other law-abiding citizens.

The police commissioner also commended the operatives involved in the case for their professionalism and swift response.
