Kano Police, Multi-Agency Taskforce Unite to Intensify Crackdown on Drug Trafficking, Thuggery

The Kano State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking, thuggery and other related crimes through a strategic partnership with the Kano State Multi-Agency Taskforce on Drugs and Illicit Trafficking.

The commitment was made on Thursday when the Chairman of the Taskforce, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, led members of the agency on a courtesy and working visit to the Command Headquarters in Bompai, where they were received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

Speaking during the visit, Rimin Gado said the delegation was at the Police Command to formally introduce the Taskforce’s leadership, present its 2026 operational plan and strengthen collaboration with the police in tackling drug abuse and illicit trafficking across Kano State.

He commended the Police Command for its proactive and intelligence-driven approach to crime prevention, assuring that the Taskforce would support ongoing security efforts through public enlightenment campaigns, community engagement, advocacy and credible intelligence gathering aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks.

Responding, CP Bakori reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to work closely with the Taskforce to combat drug trafficking, thuggery and other criminal activities threatening public safety.

According to the Commissioner, addressing drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking requires strong collaboration among security agencies and relevant stakeholders. He pledged the Command’s support through joint operations, intelligence sharing, technical assistance and the deployment of tactical resources to eliminate drug dealers, traffickers and violent gangs from the state.

The Police Commissioner noted that drug abuse remains a major driver of thuggery, locally known as Fadan Daba, particularly within the Kano metropolis, stressing that the partnership would focus on addressing the root causes of the menace.

He also appealed to parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders and community members to support security agencies by providing timely information and promoting preventive measures to protect young people from drug abuse.

The Kano State Police Command reiterated its determination to ensure a drug-free and crime-free society, warning that anyone involved in illicit drug trafficking, drug dealing or thuggery would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
