NDLEA, Kano Task Force Deepen Partnership to Tackle Drug Abuse, Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, and the Kano State Multi-Joint Task Force Committee on Drug Abuse and Other Related Crimes have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking across the state.

The Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, Dahiru Lawal, gave the assurance while receiving the Chairman of the Multi-Joint Task Force Committee, Muhuyi Magaji, and members of the committee during a courtesy visit to the command headquarters in Kano.

Speaking during the visit, Magaji said the engagement was aimed at familiarising committee members with the operations of the NDLEA command and reinforcing collaboration with the agency. He described the NDLEA as a critical institution vested with statutory powers to investigate and prosecute drug-related offences, pledging the committee’s full support in advancing its mandate.

He stressed that sustained advocacy and community sensitisation remain vital in reducing the prevalence of substance abuse across Kano State.

In his remarks, Lawal described the Multi-Joint Task Force Committee as a key stakeholder in the campaign against drug abuse, noting that lasting success can only be achieved through a combination of law enforcement, prevention, public education and active community participation.

He called for stronger involvement of religious, traditional and community leaders in anti-drug campaigns, while advocating targeted awareness programmes for vulnerable groups, particularly young people.

The NDLEA commander also highlighted the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, an initiative of the Chairman and Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), aimed at preventing drug abuse through sustained public enlightenment. He further noted the introduction of drug integrity testing in tertiary institutions as part of preventive measures to discourage substance abuse among students.

Lawal also commended the establishment of the NDLEA–Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria committee, describing it as a strategic initiative to curb the diversion and misuse of controlled substances.

Both parties pledged to sustain their partnership through coordinated enforcement, advocacy and public enlightenment campaigns to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse in Kano State.

They also expressed appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for establishing the Kano State Multi-Joint Task Force Committee on Drug Abuse and Other Related Crimes as part of the state’s efforts to address the growing challenge of substance abuse.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a plaque to Magaji in recognition of his commitment and contributions to the anti-drug campaign.
