Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has been affirmed as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general elections.

The affirmation took place on Thursday during a colourful gathering of APC delegates at the Sani Abacha Stadium amid heavy rainfall and hailstorm, a development many supporters described as a sign of divine blessing for the governor’s second-term bid.

The motion for the nomination and affirmation of Governor Yusuf was moved by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, and seconded by the Senator representing Kano South Senatorial District, Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila.

The exercise was chaired by former Minister of the Federal Republic, Mukhtar Shagari, who described the endorsement as a reflection of public satisfaction with the governor’s developmental strides across the state.

According to Shagari, the massive turnout at the event demonstrated the people’s appreciation of the administration’s policies and programmes, especially in the areas of infrastructure, education, healthcare and youth empowerment.

“The crowd witnessed at the stadium is a clear indication that the people of Kano appreciate the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the projects being executed under his administration,” he said.

Shagari also expressed confidence that the APC would retain Kano State in the 2027 general elections, stressing that the party remained committed to sustaining ongoing development projects across the state.
In his remarks, Governor Yusuf thanked party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to intensify efforts toward delivering more dividends of democracy to the people.

“I am deeply honoured by this endorsement and the continued support of our party members and the good people of Kano State,” the governor said.

He assured residents that his administration would continue to implement people-oriented projects aimed at improving living standards and stimulating economic growth across the state.

Governor Yusuf further reaffirmed his commitment to transparent governance, inclusive leadership and party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

Many participants at the event described the downpour and hailstorm recorded shortly before the commencement of proceedings as symbolic and a good omen for the governor’s re-election ambition.

“The heavy rain accompanied by ice balls before the affirmation signifies blessings and shows that the APC administration will continue to grow stronger in Kano State,” some party supporters observed.
