Kano Drug Task Force Arrests 28, Dismantles Five Suspected Drug Joints in Tofa

The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Other Related Crimes has arrested 28 suspects and dismantled five suspected drug joints during an operation in Rimin Gado and Doka communities of Tofa Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted on Friday, August 7, 2026, was led by the Chairman of the Task Force, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji, as part of the state government’s intensified campaign against drug abuse, illicit trafficking and other related criminal activities.

Briefing journalists after the operation, the leader of the joint taskforce, Rimin-Gado, said the targeted actions were undertaken to demonstrate the Task Force’s impartial enforcement of its mandate.

Magaji said the exercise was intended to demonstrate the government’s commitment to enforcing the law fairly across the state, regardless of location or status.

“We are treating every community equally and enforcing the law without bias. Our guiding principle is ‘Kano First,’ and we are determined to ensure a peaceful, prosperous and drug-free state in line with the vision of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf,” he said.

Magaji explained that the decision to begin the latest operation in Rimin Gado, his hometown, was deliberate and symbolic. He said tackling drug-related activities in his own community was an important demonstration of the Task Force’s commitment to impartial enforcement.

He added that the campaign would be expanded beyond the Kano metropolis to cover all 44 local government areas of the state.

The chairman said investigations into the arrested suspects were ongoing and assured that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He noted that the Task Force was adopting a comprehensive approach that combines enforcement with prevention, rehabilitation and community engagement.

According to him, the agency would intensify collaboration with traditional and community leaders, regulatory bodies, health institutions and educational stakeholders to raise awareness, strengthen controls within the drug supply chain and expand rehabilitation and recovery support for people affected by substance use.

Magaji also clarified that legitimate businesses were not the target of the operations, stressing that the objective was to disrupt illicit drug networks while creating a safer environment for lawful businesses and communities.

He urged residents to support the campaign by reporting suspected drug trafficking and abuse to the appropriate authorities.

The Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against drug-related crimes while maintaining professional standards and protecting the health, safety and security of residents across Kano State.
