FG’s Agricultural Push Will Strengthen Nigeria’s Food Security – Dr.Salisu Salisu

The Federal Government’s renewed commitment to boosting agricultural production will strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to achieve food security and meet the needs of its growing population, the Provost of the Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology (FCAPTECH), Kano, Dr Salihu Salisu, has said.

Salisu made the remarks during a reception organised by the Academic Staff Union of Agriculture Colleges (ASUAC), FCAPTECH Branch, to celebrate his confirmation as Provost of the institution.

The Provost said the college would play a key role in supporting the Federal Government’s agricultural development efforts by producing highly skilled manpower capable of driving innovation, productivity and value addition across the sector.

He pledged to reposition academic activities at the institution to ensure they are more closely aligned with the practical needs of Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

According to him, his administration will prioritise improvements in teaching and learning, research, practical agricultural training and other programmes that can contribute to food security and sustainable national development.

Salisu also identified staff and student welfare as a major component of his administration’s agenda, stressing that a conducive environment was essential for effective teaching, learning, research and service delivery.

He disclosed that the college would intensify efforts to expand its academic programmes through the introduction of relevant courses focused on agricultural production, processing and value addition.

The Provost further said FCAPTECH would strengthen practical training to equip students with the technical and entrepreneurial skills required to contribute meaningfully to agricultural development and create employment opportunities for themselves and others.

He called on members of staff, students and other stakeholders to support his administration in implementing its programmes and policies, noting that collective commitment would be crucial to achieving the institution’s development objectives.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of ASUAC, FCAPTECH Branch, Comrade Abubakar Mohammad, described Salisu’s confirmation as Provost as timely.

Mohammad urged the new administration to place greater emphasis on academic excellence, staff development and improved service delivery.

He assured the Provost and his management team of the union’s readiness to provide the necessary support and cooperation to enable the administration achieve its objectives.

The ASUAC chairman also pledged the union’s continued commitment to promoting industrial harmony and constructive engagement with the college management in the interest of the institution’s overall development.
