At least four persons were trapped on Friday after a two-storey building under construction collapsed along Sultan Road in Kano.

The incident occurred at about 9:00 a.m., according to eyewitnesses and workers at the construction site.

As of the time of filing this report, three of the victims had been rescued from the rubble, while emergency responders continued efforts to rescue a fourth person believed to be trapped beneath the debris.

The victims reportedly include a security guard and a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) rider who were at the site when the building suddenly gave way.

A construction worker, Shu’aibu Yaro, who witnessed the incident, said the supervising engineer noticed signs of structural failure moments before the collapse and immediately instructed workers to evacuate the building.

According to Yaro, the timely warning helped prevent what could have been a more devastating tragedy.

He added that the three rescued victims,
including the security guard and one of his colleagues, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital in Kano for medical treatment.

Emergency rescue operations were still ongoing at the scene as authorities worked to locate and rescue the remaining trapped victim.
