The organisers of the 2026 Gombe Emir’s Cup football tournament, popularly known as the King’s Cup, have announced the fixtures and dates for the quarter-final matches.
The competition, organised and sponsored by Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara Gombe, Chief Executive Officer of Green White Green, has brought together football teams representing emirates and traditional councils from across Gombe State.
According to the fixtures released by the organisers, Gombe Emirate Council will take on Funakaye Emirate Council on July 18, 2026, at the Deba Township Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
Other quarter-final fixtures include Late Shehu Abubakar FC against Tula Traditional Council on July 19, Pindiga versus Nafada Emirate Council on July 20, and Dukku Emirate Council facing Dadiya Traditional Council on July 21.
The tournament aims to provide a platform for young footballers to showcase their talents while promoting unity, friendship, and peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic communities in Gombe State.
Speaking on the competition, Hon.
Ahmad Shuaibu Gara Gombe, a former Chairman of the Gombe State Football Association and former Chairman of Gombe United FC, described the championship as a huge success. He commended the participating teams, match officials, and organisers for their commitment and urged them to maintain the momentum to ensure a successful and incident-free tournament.
He added that the dates for the semi-final and final matches will be announced in due course.
The grand finale is expected to attract several prominent dignitaries, including the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya; the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III; and the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, among other distinguished guests.
