ADC National Chairman David Mark Mourns Iconic Editor Dan Agbese, Hails Him as “National Asset”

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of celebrated editor and media icon, Dan Agbese, describing the loss as both personal and national.

In a statement released on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Paul Mumeh, Senator Mark said Agbese’s passing marks the end of an era defined by integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to truthful journalism.

“I have lost a brother and a pathfinder of immeasurable value,” he said. “The Nigerian media fraternity is in deep mourning following the departure of one of its finest professionals. Dan Agbese was a towering figure whose work shaped public discourse and upheld the highest standards of journalism.”

He noted that Agbese was more than a newsroom leader; he was a national asset whose insightful commentary, fairness, and depth profoundly influenced generations of journalists across the country.

Mark described Agbese’s death as a monumental loss to both the media industry and the nation. “At a time when truth and accountability are critical, Nigeria has lost a voice that consistently stood for justice, ethical reporting, and national unity,” he stated.

The ADC Chairman extended his condolences to Agbese’s family, colleagues, friends, and the wider media community, praying for strength and comfort as they mourn a man who lived with purpose, worked with passion, and left an enduring legacy.

“As we honour the memory of Dan Agbese, we must recommit ourselves to the values he embodied—professionalism, courage, and an unrelenting pursuit of truth,” he added.

He prayed for the repose of Agbese’s soul, saying, “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
