The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Professor Isa Yahaya Bunkure, has called on academic and non-academic staff to work collectively toward repositioning the institution for academic excellence and national impact.
Delivering his inaugural address at the university campus, Prof. Bunkure expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception accorded him, describing it as a reflection of the unity and optimism within the institution.
“I am truly honored by the trust and confidence placed in me by this great community,” he said. “I assure you that I will not betray this trust. Together, we will elevate this university to greater heights.”
Outlining his vision for the institution, the Vice Chancellor announced that his administration has developed a strategic roadmap focused on enhancing the quality of teaching, research, and learning across all faculties. He emphasized that the university will remain steadfast in producing highly competent and qualified teachers capable of transforming Nigeria’s education sector.
Prof. Bunkure also addressed concerns raised by students and alumni regarding delays in the issuance of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) certificates. He assured that such cases would receive immediate attention through a comprehensive audit and review process.
“From now on, any student who successfully completes their examinations and fulfills all institutional requirements will receive their results and certificates without unnecessary delays,” he pledged.
On the implementation of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and other scholarship schemes initiated by the Federal Government, the Vice Chancellor assured transparency and efficiency in the management and disbursement of funds.
“We will not hesitate to facilitate the immediate release of funds to all eligible students once the Federal Government has made the necessary provisions. No student will be left behind due to financial constraints,” he affirmed.
Prof. Bunkure concluded his address with a call for unity and dedication among staff, stressing that collective effort remains key to achieving the university’s mission.
“This journey requires the dedication and cooperation of everyone. I call upon both teaching and non-teaching staff to join me in this mission of transformation. Together, we can build a university that is not only respected nationally but admired internationally,” he stated.
The address was received with applause and optimism, as members of the university community expressed confidence in Prof. Bunkure’s leadership and vision for institutional growth.
