The Kano State Police Command has arrested five men suspected of impersonating police officers in a coordinated operation based on credible intelligence.
The public relations officer of command SP ABDULLAHI Haruna Kiyawa disclosed this to Journalist in Kano .
He said the suspects — Aliyu Abbas (35), Sani Iliyasu (47), Ashiru Sule (41), Abubakar Yahaya (45), and Adamu Kalilu (45) were apprehended on October 16 by operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) while posing as police officers.
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said the suspects were found in possession of a fake police warrant card, handcuffs, mutilated naira notes, 2,500 CFA francs, and a blue Peugeot 406 vehicle with registration number NSR-188-BD.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to using the fake warrant card to extort members of the public and carry out various illegal activities across Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states.
Ho noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating crime and warned against any form of impersonation.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
