Governor’s College has emerged as the winner of the 2025 National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy.
The competition, which concluded in Kano, saw six secondary schools from the state participate, with Governor’s College attaining the top position.
The quiz competition, now in its 10th edition, aims to increase knowledge among Nigeria’s youth about the roles of the legislative organ in promoting national democracy.
Thematic areas covered include legislative oversight and accountability, legislative practice and procedures, national assembly structure, conduct, and performance, as well as constitution and governance.
The participating schools included Governor’s College, Government Girls Secondary School, Kadawa, Science College Dawakin Tofa and Government Girls Secondary School, Gwarzo.
Others Girls Science and Technical College, Sumaila and Government Secondary School, Rano.
Governor’s College won the first position, Government Girls Secondary School, Gwarzo won second, and Government Secondary School Rano won third.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Hon. Suleiman Mukhtar Ishaq Madobi, emphasized the importance of educating young students about the activities of the legislative organ.
The State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, appreciated the leadership and members of the National Assembly for prioritizing civic education and youth engagement on legislative matters.
The Director General of NILDS, Professor Abubakar O. Suleiman, noted that the competition has been an annual event since 2016, with the aim of promoting knowledge and participation among young citizens.
Certificates of attendance were presented to participating schools, and prizes were awarded to the winners.
Governor’s College will represent Kano State at the next North West National Quiz Competition.
