The Nigerian National Assembly has officially extended its resumption date for plenary sessions from Tuesday, September 23, to Tuesday, October 7, 2025.The announcement was contained in a memo dated September 22, 2025 and signed by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana.
It reads; “I am directed by the presiding officers of both Chambers of National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that the Resumption date of the National Assembly earlier scheduled for Tuesday 23rd September 2025 is postponed to Tuesday 7th October 2025.“However, committee activities continue .
All Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are requested to take note of the new date and adjust their schedules accordingly.“
Any inconvenience caused by this rescheduling is deeply regretted.”
The Nigerian National Assembly was expected to resume sitting on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 after two-month annual recess which began on July 23, 2025.Only plenary sittings were suspended during the recess because the lawmakers continued with other legislative activities.
Some standing and ad-hoc committees were active throughout the break, holding investigative hearings and engaging stakeholders on pending bills.
This ensured that parliamentary work did not grind to a halt entirely, even as members were away from the chamber.
