Russian President Vladimir Putin has conveyed Iran’s proposal for resolving its conflict with the United States to President Donald Trump, as Moscow renews its offer to take custody of Tehran’s highly enriched uranium as part of efforts to find a diplomatic solution.

Russia’s Interfax news agency reported on October 10 that the proposal was discussed during a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump. According to the Kremlin, the talks included Iran’s position on its nuclear programme and possible ways to end the conflict.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin had communicated Tehran’s views to Trump in coordination with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

“In coordination with the Iranian president, Putin conveyed the Iranian side’s views on a possible resolution to the conflict to Trump,” Peskov said on Saturday, according to Russia’s state-owned RIA Novosti news agency.

Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov also said Putin had reiterated Moscow’s offer to transfer Iran’s highly enriched uranium to Russia.

“Putin told Trump that Moscow’s offer to transfer Iran’s highly enriched uranium to Russia remains on the table,” Ushakov said.

The latest diplomatic engagement suggests that efforts to find a negotiated settlement remain ongoing, despite continued tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Iran Signals Willingness to Negotiate

Iran continues to control maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, while the US Navy maintains a blockade on Iranian seaports, according to the account of the conflict.

The more than seven-month-long confrontation has persisted despite previous diplomatic efforts, including a memorandum of understanding reached by the two sides in June. However, disagreements over concessions have complicated attempts to secure a lasting settlement.

During a meeting with Putin, Pezeshkian indicated that Tehran remained open to negotiations with Washington.

The Iranian president said both Iran and the United States had submitted proposals and that, once the details were finalised, discussions would proceed through established diplomatic channels.

Putin’s latest conversation with Trump also highlighted Moscow’s continued efforts to facilitate dialogue, particularly on the sensitive issue of Iran’s nuclear programme.

Trump Thanks Putin for Diesel Fuel Deal

Meanwhile, Trump has publicly thanked Putin for agreeing to supply diesel fuel to the US market, describing the arrangement as significant for American energy needs.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, Trump said the deal would bring substantial quantities of diesel into the United States.

“I think you heard about the oil deal with Russia. That is a big deal. That is massive amounts of oil coming into our country, and I want to thank President Putin, to be honest with you,” Trump said.

He added that diesel was the product the United States needed and expressed satisfaction with the arrangement.

“We need oil for the world, and this is diesel, which is what we need. So, we’re very happy to get it,” Trump said.

The reported agreement comes amid broader geopolitical tensions over Russia’s war in Ukraine and continued disagreements between Moscow and Western governments over sanctions and diplomatic pressure.

Zelensky Criticises Moscow as Russian Strikes Kill 16

The reported diesel arrangement has also drawn attention in the context of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that Moscow was expressing its “thanks” through continued military action, following fresh Russian strikes that reportedly killed 16 people, according to authorities.

Despite opposition from European leaders to easing pressure on Russia, Trump has continued to make controversial remarks about the war and Ukraine’s leadership.

Trump said Ukraine needed to replace Zelensky with a new leader to end the conflict. He also indicated that Ukraine could continue taking action against Russia but cautioned against attacks on oil refineries.

Kirill Dmitriev, the Kremlin’s special envoy for economic cooperation, described Trump’s remarks as “iconic and historic”.

The developments highlight the complex diplomatic landscape surrounding the conflicts involving the United States, Iran, Russia and Ukraine, with energy supplies, nuclear negotiations and military operations remaining central to international discussions.
