The Kano State Government has pledged to deepen its collaboration with the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to promote professionalism, capacity development and ethical standards in the public relations industry.

The government also announced plans to support the establishment of a permanent NIPR facility in the state as part of efforts to provide continuous training and strengthen the practice of public relations.

The Director-General, Media and Publicity to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this when he received members of the Kano State Chapter of NIPR at the Government House.

The NIPR delegation was at the Government House as part of activities to raise awareness about the forthcoming 2026 World Public Relations Forum, scheduled to hold in Abuja from November 15 to 21.

Representing Governor Yusuf, Dawakin Tofa said the governor had directed the NIPR chapter to submit a formal request for land allocation for the proposed permanent facility.

He added that the state government would continue to support training and retraining initiatives aimed at improving professional standards and promoting adherence to the ethics of public relations.

According to him, the government has also implemented various welfare interventions for media and public relations practitioners.

Dawakin Tofa said more than N150 million had been spent in 2026 through his office on welfare support for different categories of media and public relations professionals.

He said the interventions included the provision of mobility and working tools, shelter and medical assistance.

The Director-General assured journalists and public relations practitioners of the government’s continued commitment to their safety and welfare, adding that legitimate requests from the NIPR, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel would receive appropriate attention.

Earlier, a senior NIPR member, Professor Ya’u Sule Ya’u, said the awareness campaign was designed to sensitise the public to the significance of the World Public Relations Forum.

He said the forum would enable practitioners to examine emerging trends in public relations and review internationally recognised principles of the profession in light of technological and societal changes.

The Kano State NIPR Chairman, Aliyu Yusuf, commended the state government for its support and recognition of the institute and its members.

The awareness campaign is part of activities leading to the global forum, which is expected to attract public relations practitioners and stakeholders from around the world to Nigeria.
