The Kano State Police Command has reiterated the ban on Durbar and horse/animal-riding activities across the state, warning individuals and organisations against violating the security directive.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, made this known on Friday during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano.

According to the Commissioner, the ban was imposed by the Kano State Government following consultations with relevant security stakeholders as part of measures to preserve public peace and maintain safety and order in the state.

He said reports of apparent breaches of the directive had prompted the security agencies to restate that the ban remains in force and applies to everyone, regardless of status or position.

“The threats which necessitated the ban were put to serious checks and are still potent,” the Commissioner said.

CP Bakori stressed that maintaining public peace, safety and order remains the primary responsibility of law enforcement and security agencies, adding that security agencies would not allow activities capable of jeopardising public safety.

To strengthen security coordination and ensure adequate security arrangements, the Joint Security Meeting in the state resolved that any person, institution or organisation intending to organise a Durbar or any form of horse/animal-riding activity in a public place must notify the Kano State Police Command at least 72 hours in advance and in writing.

The notice must be addressed to the Police Command through the Office of the Commissioner of Police to enable the authorities to conduct the necessary security assessment and make appropriate arrangements for public safety and order.

The Commissioner urged all residents, organisations and other concerned parties to comply strictly with the lawful security directives and cooperate with security agencies.

He assured residents that law enforcement agencies in Kano State remained united and committed to enforcing the law and safeguarding public peace and order.
