Kebbi Police, Military Neutralise Terrorists in Gumki Forest, Recover Rifles, Ammunition

Kebbi State Police Command, in collaboration with the military, has neutralised suspected terrorist elements during a clearance operation at Gumki Forest in Kangiwa area of the state.

The operation, which took place at about 6:05am on Monday, September 14, 2026, targeted a forest route reportedly used by bandits and Lakurawa elements operating in the area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the joint security team successfully engaged the suspected terrorists during the operation, resulting in the recovery of arms, ammunition, motorcycles and other items.

Items recovered from the operation included one PKT rifle with 174 rounds of live ammunition, one AK-47 rifle with 14 rounds of live ammunition, a pair of military camouflage uniforms, a pair of boots, two mobile phones, charms and four motorcycles.

The command said the area remains relatively calm, while joint security operations are continuing to further clear the forest and rid the state of criminal elements.

The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Umar M. Hadejia, commended the operatives for what he described as their gallantry and dedication to duty.

Hadejia reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained, coordinated and intelligence-led operations in collaboration with other security agencies to combat banditry, terrorism and other forms of criminality across the state.

He also called on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to improve security.

The latest operation is part of intensified security efforts aimed at disrupting the activities and movements of armed criminal groups operating in parts of Kebbi State.
