Hadejia-Jama’are Basin Authority Empowers 50,000 Farmers, Women, Youths in Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi

The Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA) has empowered about 50,000 farmers, women, youths and other beneficiaries across Kano, Jigawa and Bauchi states with agricultural equipment and support materials to boost food production and improve livelihoods.

The intervention was launched on Monday at the Authority’s headquarters in Hotoro, Kano, where its Managing Director, Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, formally presented the equipment to beneficiaries and stakeholders.

The items distributed included solar-powered water pumping machines fitted with three 300-watt solar panels, petrol-powered water pumps, harrowing machines and other agricultural support materials.

Speaking at the event, Bichi said the intervention was aimed at strengthening irrigation farming, expanding cultivated areas and increasing agricultural productivity across the three states.

He explained that the initiative was part of the Authority’s broader efforts to support farmers and other vulnerable groups by providing practical tools capable of improving their economic activities and livelihoods.

According to him, access to appropriate agricultural equipment would enable beneficiaries to increase their production capacity while reducing some of the challenges associated with irrigation and mechanised farming.

Bichi urged the beneficiaries to use the equipment responsibly and ensure that the intervention translates into higher agricultural output, increased incomes and improved living conditions in their respective communities.

The empowerment programme attracted farmers, women, youths, elders and representatives of various communities and groups from Kano, Jigawa and Bauchi states.

Some beneficiaries commended the Authority for the intervention, describing the agricultural equipment as a timely boost that would strengthen their farming activities and contribute to improving household incomes.

Prayers were also offered for the success of the programme and the safe return of participants to their various communities.
