Garba Urges Kano Journalists to Highlight Development Under Governor Yusuf

The Chief of Staff to former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Muhammed Garba, has urged journalists in Kano State to give balanced and positive coverage to the activities of the state government.

Garba, who is also a former Commissioner for Information in Kano State, said the state was witnessing visible development under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He made the call while unveiling the newly refurbished office of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ.

According to him, journalists should acknowledge and report developments that contribute to the growth and progress of the state, irrespective of political differences.

“Politics aside, Kano is actually working, and this clearly shows the concern of the government in turning things around for the benefit of the state,” Garba said.

The former NUJ president urged members of the media to remain professional in their reportage while ensuring that genuine efforts aimed at improving the lives of residents receive appropriate attention.

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, Murtala Adewale, said the renovation of the facility was part of the executive committee’s efforts to improve the welfare and working conditions of journalists.

Adewale explained that the project went beyond physical renovation, noting that the objective was to provide a conducive environment where journalists could work effectively, exchange ideas and engage with key stakeholders.

He commended the renovation committee, led by Abdullahi Jalaludeen, with Salim Umar Ibrahim as Secretary, alongside members Abdullahi Yusuf, Jacob Adeola Ajakaye and Mohammad Kabir, for their dedication and contributions to the successful completion of the project.

The refurbished facility received commendations from media professionals, community leaders and publishers, who praised the chapel’s leadership for transforming the complex.

Professor Sule Ya’u Sule described the chapel as having a “working leader,” while Abdulsalam Muhammad commended Adewale for introducing new initiatives and urged members to continue supporting his leadership.

The Managing Director of Muhasa Radio and Television, Kano, Aishatu Sule, expressed delight over the transformation, describing the outcome as impressive.

Similarly, Publisher of SolaceBase Newspaper, Abdullateef Abubakar Jos, praised Adewale’s leadership, describing him as an example of effective leadership.

Publisher of Hot Pen News Magazine, Aliyu M. Dangida, also commended the renovation, saying he was impressed by the transformation of the facility.

Former spokesman to former Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Habibu Nuhu Kila, said he would encourage the Correspondents’ Chapel in Dutse to replicate the Kano initiative.

The event concluded with a guided tour of the refurbished facility, which includes upgraded workspaces and media conference amenities designed to create a more conducive environment for journalists and improve professional activities at the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel.
