Shagari Applauds Aliyu’s Performance, Urges Sokoto Residents to Support Development Drive

Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, has commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s administration for its interventions in education, agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure and social welfare.

Shagari said the government’s policies and programmes were gradually making a visible impact across the state and laying the foundation for sustainable development.

In a statement issued on his behalf by his media aide, Musa Ubandawaki, the former deputy governor said the administration had demonstrated commitment to improving the living conditions of residents through interventions in key sectors of the economy.

He particularly highlighted developments in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, social intervention and environmental management.

Education Investment
Shagari described the government’s investment in education, including the rehabilitation of schools and provision of learning facilities, as crucial to the future of Sokoto State.

“Investment in education is an investment in the future of our state,” he said, stressing the need to provide children and young people with conducive learning environments and the resources required for their development.
Agriculture and Food Security.

The former deputy governor also praised the administration’s support for farmers, particularly the distribution of free fertiliser and pesticides.

He said agricultural interventions were important to strengthening food security, reducing poverty and creating economic opportunities in Sokoto, where agriculture remains a major source of livelihood.

According to him, sustained provision of farm inputs and other forms of support would help increase agricultural productivity, improve rural livelihoods and enhance the state’s contribution to national food security.
Healthcare and Social Welfare.

On healthcare, Shagari acknowledged efforts to improve health infrastructure and access to essential medical services.

He described a healthy population as a key foundation for sustainable economic and social development, while urging the government to maintain its focus on the sector.

He also commended the administration’s interventions in religious affairs and social welfare, particularly programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable residents, orphans and disadvantaged families.

Such initiatives, he said, demonstrated the government’s concern for the welfare and wellbeing of citizens.

Infrastructure and Sanitation
Shagari further praised investments in roads, water supply, housing, markets and power, saying the projects were contributing to the transformation of Sokoto’s physical and economic landscape.

He noted that sustained investment in infrastructure would facilitate economic activities, improve the movement of people and goods, and create a more conducive environment for investment.

The former deputy governor also applauded the administration’s attention to environmental sanitation, saying parts of Sokoto metropolis had recorded noticeable improvements in cleanliness.

He, however, urged residents to complement government efforts by disposing of waste responsibly and protecting public infrastructure and other government facilities.

Shagari Urges Unity
Shagari called on residents of Sokoto State to support the administration’s development efforts regardless of political, ethnic or other differences.

He described the development of the state as a collective responsibility, stressing that government projects and programmes could only be sustained through the cooperation of citizens.

“The development of Sokoto State is a collective responsibility.

Government can initiate projects and programmes, but their sustainability depends largely on the cooperation and support of the people,” he said.

“Sokoto belongs to all of us. Its progress must therefore be a shared mission. Let us put aside unnecessary divisions and work together to build a state that future generations will be proud to inherit,” he added.

Shagari expressed optimism that continued commitment by the government, combined with greater cooperation from residents, would enable Sokoto State to make further progress in economic development, education, healthcare and infrastructure.
