Kano Police Recover Suspected Stolen Solar Inverters Worth ₦59.2m, Arrest Three Over ₦10.2m Filling Station Robbery

The Kano State Police Command has recorded two major breakthroughs in separate operations, recovering suspected stolen solar inverters valued at ₦59.2 million and arresting three suspects linked to the theft of fuel dispensing machines worth ₦10.2 million.

The Command said the successes, achieved within 48 hours by operatives of the Sharada Police Division and the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), underscore its commitment to intelligence-led, proactive and community-based policing.

160 Suspected Stolen Solar Inverters Recovered
According to the Police, detectives attached to the Sharada Police Division acted on credible intelligence on July 29, 2026, leading to the arrest of a 43-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Isah, who was allegedly advertising large quantities of solar inverters at unusually low prices.

A follow-up operation led officers to an uncompleted building at Haye Quarters along the Western Bypass in Kano, where they recovered 160 units of 6.5KW/48V solar inverters with an estimated value of ₦59.2 million.

Police said the items are reasonably suspected to have been stolen, while investigations are ongoing to determine their source and identify other suspects connected to the case.

The Command has appealed to members of the public who may have lost similar solar inverters to visit the Sharada Police Division or contact the Divisional Police Officer on 08067272300 for identification and possible recovery of the items.

Three Arrested Over Filling Station Robbery
In a separate operation, the Special Intervention Squad arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of six fuel dispensing machines valued at about ₦10.2 million from Jajire Filling Station in Aku Village along Maiduguri Road in Gaya Local Government Area.

Police said the robbery occurred in the early hours of July 25, 2026, when armed men allegedly overpowered security guards, tied them up, locked them inside the security room and carted away the machines.

Following a report to the police later that day, SIS operatives launched an investigation that led to the arrest of three suspects on July 29.

The suspects were identified as Bishir Abubakar, 60, of Gafai Ward, Katsina State; Shamsu Abdullahi, 30, of Kofar Kaura Ward, Katsina State; and Alhaji Shamsu Lawan, 56, of Filin Polo, Katsina State.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly confessed to purchasing the stolen fuel dispensing machines from one Usman Ibrahim of Kaduna State, who remains at large, for ₦5.2 million.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover the stolen equipment, while the arrested suspects are expected to be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
CP Commends Officers, Warns Residents.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers of the Sharada Police Division and the Special Intervention Squad for their professionalism and swift response.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and recovering stolen property across Kano State.

Bakori also appreciated community policing stakeholders whose timely information contributed to the successful operations and urged residents to avoid purchasing goods offered at suspiciously low prices.

The police further encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station.
