Kano Leaders Urge FG to Release ₦5bn Relief Fund for Singer Market Fire Victims

A high-powered delegation of Kano business leaders and senior government officials has appealed to the Federal Government to immediately release the ₦5 billion relief fund approved for victims of the devastating Singer Market fire.

The appeal was made during a meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson to the Kano State Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

The delegation reminded the Federal Government of its earlier commitment to support thousands of traders who lost their businesses, goods and means of livelihood in the market inferno.

It stressed that the timely release of the intervention fund would provide much-needed relief to affected traders and help accelerate the restoration of commercial activities at the popular market.

Speaking during the meeting, members of the delegation expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the intervention. They, however, urged the Federal Government to complete the necessary processes to ensure beneficiaries receive the support without further delay.

The delegation included the President of the Association of Kano Business Community, Alhaji Sabiu Bako; the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya; APC National Ex-Officio, Hon. Muhammad Jamu Yusuf; Chairman of Singer Market, Barrister Junaidu Muhammad Zakari; and businessman, Alhaji Kabiru Adamu Gano.

Responding, Senator Akume assured the delegation that their concerns had been noted, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting victims of the Singer Market fire disaster and facilitating the intervention process.
