The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest public servants whose contributions to national development will remain enduring.
In a statement, Senator Mark recalled serving alongside the late elder statesman during the administration of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, where Alhaji served as Minister of Finance while he was Minister of Communications.
According to the former Senate President, Alhaji distinguished himself through professionalism, integrity, fiscal discipline, and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s economic growth.
“Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji was a patriot in every sense of the word. He brought exceptional competence, wisdom, and honesty to public service. His contributions to Nigeria’s economic management remain remarkable and enduring,” Mark said.
He noted that beyond his achievements in public office, the late former minister was a humble, compassionate, and selfless leader who dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria and humanity.
Senator Mark described the deceased as one of the country’s most experienced administrators and a respected voice of reason whose counsel was always guided by the national interest.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Alhaji family, the Government and people of Sokoto State, and Nigerians at large over what he described as an irreparable loss.
The ADC National Chairman prayed that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of the deceased, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his family, friends, and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
