Gunmen Abduct Kebbi High Court Judge from Residence, Police Launch Rescue Operation

Suspected bandits have abducted a Judge of the Kebbi State High Court, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday at the judge’s home along Zogirma Road, shortly after he returned from a trip to Sokoto State, according to reports.

Witnesses said the armed attackers fired sporadically during the operation before forcefully taking the judge away. No other member of his household was reported injured in the attack.

Confirming the incident, the Kebbi State Police Command said it had launched a coordinated search and rescue operation to secure Justice Bunza’s safe release.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, had directed tactical and intelligence teams to comb identified locations, including nearby forest areas, in a bid to rescue the judge alive and unharmed.

A senior official of the Kebbi State High Court, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the abduction as disturbing, adding that the court’s management had engaged security agencies to coordinate efforts aimed at ensuring the judge’s immediate release.

As of the time of filing this report, no individual or group had claimed responsibility for the abduction. Security agencies said search and rescue efforts were ongoing.
