Kano Police Warn 200 Newly Trained Officers Against Misuse of Firearms

The Kano State Police Command has urged 200 newly trained police constables and corporals to handle their firearms responsibly while remaining professional, disciplined and committed to protecting human rights in the discharge of their duties.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, gave the charge during the passing-out ceremony of officers who completed a one-month specialised combat and weapons handling course at the 9 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Hotoro and the 52 PMF Squadron in Challawa.

Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Audu Sabo, the commissioner said the training was aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of officers to address evolving security threats in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police.

Bakori said the participants underwent intensive training in combat techniques, tactical manoeuvres, body positioning, trigger control, follow-through, weapons handling and modern policing ethics.

He urged the officers to remain combat-ready in the fight against crime while ensuring that the use of force and firearms strictly complied with established rules of engagement and respect for human rights.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Commanding Officer of the 9 PMF Squadron, Hotoro, ACP Hafeez Oyekan, said the officers received practical instruction in modern weapons handling, principles of marksmanship, combat tactics and tactical operations to improve their effectiveness in maintaining public safety.

He expressed confidence that the newly trained personnel would apply the skills acquired professionally and contribute meaningfully to efforts aimed at strengthening security across Kano State.
