The Kogunan Sokoto, Dr. Nasir Danladi Bako, has praised Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu for the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads across the state, describing the projects as a significant boost to infrastructure and urban development.

In a statement issued on Friday, Bako said the resurfacing and reconstruction of several inner-city roads had transformed parts of the state capital, noting that many of the roads had not received major attention since they were originally constructed decades ago.

According to him, some of the roads dated back to the military administration of General Yakubu Gowon, while others were built during the government of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello in the 1960s.

He identified roads in the Sahara area, J. Allen, Buzayye, Bado Quarters and other parts of the metropolis as among those rehabilitated by the present administration.

Bako also commended the construction of service lanes around major roundabouts and the remodelling of the Mai Ruwa and Sokoto Guest Inn roundabouts, saying the projects had eased traffic congestion and improved vehicular movement within the city.

While applauding the governor’s efforts, he appealed for similar interventions on township roads in densely populated communities, including Mabera Mujaya, Runjin Sambo and Gidan Dare.

The traditional titleholder further lauded the construction of a new terminal at Sultan Abubakar III Airport and the ongoing facelift of the city’s main entrance, Government House and the Kofar Taramniyya corridor leading to the Sultan’s Palace.

He also urged the state government to complete inherited projects, particularly the Teaching Hospital along Airport Road, citing the successful completion of the Rijiya Diplomat flyover in 2023 as evidence that abandoned projects could be delivered.

Bako expressed confidence that Governor Aliyu’s administration, with the support of APC leader and former Governor Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, would sustain its infrastructure drive, including the rehabilitation and construction of mosques, as well as primary and secondary schools across the state.
