The Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change has opened applications for the distribution of tree seedlings under the state’s ambitious 10 Million Trees Campaign aimed at combating environmental degradation and climate change.

The Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, announced the commencement of the application process in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to him, the initiative is part of the environmental sustainability agenda of the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Dr. Hashim said the campaign is designed to tackle desertification, restore degraded landscapes, and strengthen Kano State’s resilience to the growing impacts of climate change.

He disclosed that community development associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), youth groups, religious institutions, and schools across the state are eligible to apply for seedlings to support tree-planting activities within their communities.

“Applications are now officially open for tree seedlings under the state’s 10 Million Trees Campaign—an initiative announced by the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, through the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change,” he said.

“This vital campaign is designed to combat desertification, restore degraded landscapes, and strengthen our resilience against climate change.

“We invite community development associations, NGOs, youth groups, religious institutions, and schools across Kano State to apply to receive seedlings for planting within their localities.”

Interested groups are required to submit their applications through the ministry’s portal, providing details of their proposed planting locations, group membership, and capacity to nurture and maintain the seedlings.
