The Kano State Ministry of Justice and the Kano State Police Command have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at improving the administration of criminal justice in the state.
This followed a courtesy visit by a high-powered delegation from the Ministry of Justice to the Police Command Headquarters in Bompai on Wednesday.
The delegation was led by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Abdullahi Ibrahim Muhammad, alongside Assistant DPP 1, Zaharaddeen Kofar Mata, and Assistant DPP 2, Safiya Yalwata Yahaya.
They were received by senior officers of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, CID, Shehu Idris, alongside the Assistant Commissioner of Police, CID, Wada Jarma, and sectional heads of the department.
Speaking during the visit, Abdullahi Ibrahim Muhammad said the engagement was designed to strengthen cooperation between the police, prosecutors, and other stakeholders in the justice sector.
“We are here at the Kano State Police Command to interact directly with officers handling high-profile criminal cases, identify areas of collaboration, and bridge any existing gaps that may hinder effective justice delivery,” he said.
According to him, the visit also created an avenue to discuss training and retraining needs, emerging criminal trends, and ways to improve prosecutorial and investigative processes.
“A unified approach is essential if we are to uphold the rule of law and ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done,” the DPP added.
Responding on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Lawal Isah Mani, described the visit as a significant step toward stronger institutional collaboration.
“The Kano State Police Command values this partnership with the Ministry of Justice. The cooperation and dialogue we have today will undoubtedly translate into improved case management, timely prosecution, and better protection of the rights of both victims and suspects,” he stated.
DCP Mani also assured the delegation that observations and recommendations raised during the interactive session would be addressed promptly, while directing supervising officers and sectional heads to ensure professionalism, accountability, and adherence to due process in investigations.
The session featured discussions on prosecutorial procedures, case file preparation, evidence handling, and challenges associated with prosecuting complex crimes, including cybercrime, drug trafficking, and violent offences.
Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to regular inter-agency engagements, capacity building, and strict compliance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, Kano State, 2019.
The Kano State Police Command reiterated its commitment to justice, transparency, and professionalism, stressing that collaboration with relevant stakeholders would continue to ensure fair and swift justice delivery across the state.
