May Day 2026: NUJ Kano Celebrates Workers, Urges Journalists to Uphold Accuracy and Professional Standards

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, has congratulated workers across the state on the occasion of the 2026 International Workers’ Day, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to societal development.

In a statement issued to commemorate the May 1 celebration, the Council Chairman, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to witness another year dedicated to honouring the resilience and commitment of Nigerian workers.

Dederi paid special tribute to media professionals in Kano State, commending NUJ members for their dedication and perseverance in the practice of journalism.

He described their role as critical to sustaining democracy and promoting public awareness.

“Your unwavering commitment to the pen profession remains a cornerstone of democracy and public enlightenment,” he said.

The chairman also urged journalists to remain steadfast in upholding the core values of the profession, particularly in the face of evolving challenges within the media landscape.

He stressed the importance of accuracy and thorough fact-checking, noting that journalists must ensure all information disseminated to the public is verified, balanced, and credible.

“Maintaining the highest moral and professional standards is essential to preserving public trust,” Dederi added.

Describing Workers’ Day as a moment for reflection and renewal, the NUJ chairman called on members to recommit themselves to excellence and adapt to emerging industry standards.

He encouraged journalists to embrace innovation and continuous improvement to ensure the media remains a vibrant, factual, and indispensable service to the people of Kano State and Nigeria at large.
