The Kano State Police Command has successfully thwarted a violent clash between suspected rival ‘Yan Daba groups in the Gyadi-Gyadi area, restoring calm and apprehending six suspects.
The incident occurred on April 27, 2026, at about 1:20 p.m., following a distress call alerting authorities to an imminent confrontation between the groups. Police patrol teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they encountered an ongoing violent clash involving armed hoodlums.
During the unrest, an ambulance was vandalised, and attempts were made to attack nearby locations.
The police swiftly intervened, confronting the suspects. However, the thugs regrouped and launched an attack on officers using dangerous weapons and stones. The operatives responded professionally, repelling the assault and forcing the attackers to retreat.
The fleeing suspects reportedly moved towards the Farm Centre Market, where they attempted to break into shops and loot property.
Reinforcements were promptly deployed, leading to the dispersal of the hoodlums and the arrest of six individuals linked to the disturbance. Normalcy has since been restored in the affected areas.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised their bravery, restraint, and professionalism in preventing further escalation and safeguarding lives and property.
He issued a stern warning against all forms of thuggery and public disturbance, stressing that the Command will not tolerate ‘Yan Daba activities in the state.
He also urged parents and guardians to caution their wards, noting that anyone found engaging in criminal acts will be arrested and prosecuted.
The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and uncover those behind the clash.
Residents were also encouraged to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and useful information to help maintain peace and order.
