Namadi Signs Landmark Laws to Drive Grassroots Development, Boost Medical Education in Jigawa

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has signed into law two key pieces of legislation designed to strengthen grassroots development and advance medical education across the state.

The new laws provide for the establishment of a Polling Unit Development Fund and the conversion of Khadija University, Majia, into the Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences.

Speaking shortly after the signing ceremony at the Government House in Dutse, Governor Namadi described the development as a bold step toward improving service delivery and expanding opportunities for the people of Jigawa.

He explained that the upgraded university would function as a specialised institution dedicated to medical training, positioning the state as an emerging hub for medical sciences in Nigeria.

According to the governor, the transformation of the institution is expected to enhance the quality of healthcare education, produce skilled professionals, and contribute to the overall improvement of the health sector.

On the Polling Unit Development Fund, Namadi said the initiative is aimed at empowering communities by giving them direct access to funds for small-scale projects that address their immediate needs.

He noted that the funds would be allocated directly to polling units, enabling residents to identify, plan, and execute development projects without the delays often associated with bureaucratic processes at local and state levels.

“This approach will reduce bureaucracy, accelerate project delivery, and ensure that development efforts truly reflect the priorities of our people,” the governor said.

Governor Namadi also commended members of the State Executive Council and the Jigawa State House of Assembly for their dedication in ensuring the successful passage of the laws.

He described their efforts as a clear demonstration of commitment, patriotism, and a shared vision for the progress and development of Jigawa State.
