A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a landslide victory across Northern Nigeria in the 2027 presidential election, despite what he described as ongoing negative propaganda against the administration.
In a statement issued to journalists in Kano on Monday, Kwankwaso urged the president not to be troubled by criticism emanating largely from parts of the North, noting that such political attacks are common in the lead-up to general elections.
“The president should not worry about the negative propaganda being peddled against his administration by a section of the North.
Some past presidents faced similar challenges and overcame them,” he said.
Kwankwaso maintained that Tinubu would weather the current wave of criticism and emerge victorious. “The attacks will fizzle out, and the president will sweep Northern votes in a landslide, leading to his re-election and inauguration for a second term in 2027,” he added.
The APC stalwart, who also serves as Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, credited the Tinubu administration with making progress in addressing longstanding challenges in the North, particularly insecurity.
While acknowledging the efforts of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Kwankwaso argued that insecurity worsened during his tenure, especially in the North-West. He questioned why critics failed to hold previous administrations equally accountable for issues such as banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on communities.
According to him, President Tinubu, alongside the nation’s service chiefs, is taking decisive steps to tackle insecurity and deserves public support and appreciation.
Kwankwaso further noted that key infrastructure and development projects initiated under Buhari — including railways, road networks, water supply schemes, agricultural programmes, and the AKK Gas Pipeline — are being sustained, expanded, and completed under Tinubu’s leadership.
He also described the president as a detribalised leader, citing ongoing road and rail projects spanning major Northern corridors.
Commenting on recent political developments, Kwankwaso said the reported defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and former governor Ibrahim Shekarau to the APC has significantly strengthened the party’s base in Kano, boosting Tinubu’s chances in the state and across the region.
