The Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) has officially withdrawn its impeachment notice against former Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, bringing an end to the proceedings initiated against him.
The decision followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini, during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il.
Addressing journalists after the sitting, Hussaini explained that the withdrawal was in accordance with Order 3, Rule 6A of the Assembly’s rules, noting that the former deputy governor’s voluntary resignation made further legislative action unnecessary.
According to him, the Assembly had fulfilled its constitutional responsibility, which is limited to investigating and removing a public officer found guilty of misconduct.
“We have withdrawn all charges against him, and the matter has been laid to rest,” Hussaini said. “We will no longer pursue these allegations because our role is limited to removal. Since he has voluntarily resigned, there is no basis to continue. We are not anti-graft agencies like the EFCC or ICPC.”
The impeachment process against Abdulsalam began on March 5, 2026, when the Assembly initiated proceedings over allegations bordering on gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust.
The move was triggered by a petition submitted by the State Executive, which called on lawmakers to investigate alleged irregularities linked to Abdulsalam’s tenure as Commissioner for Local Government Affairs between 2023 and 2024.
With the latest development, the Assembly has effectively closed the case, signaling a final resolution to the political standoff surrounding the former deputy governor.
