The Kano State Police Command has dismantled a three-man tricycle theft syndicate, leading to the recovery of eight stolen tricycles across the state.
The breakthrough followed an intelligence-led operation on March 26, 2026, when officers attached to the Kwakwachi Police Division intercepted a suspect, Abubakar Sidi, along Airport Road, Kano. The suspect, who was found riding a tricycle with suspicious registration details, failed to give a satisfactory account of ownership, prompting his transfer to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further probing.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly deceived a tricycle owner along Emir Palace Road before collaborating with accomplices to steal the vehicle. Acting on the findings, police operatives arrested two additional suspects identified as Abba Babura and Babangida Haruna.
Further recovery efforts led to the discovery of seven more stolen tricycles, which had been taken to Babura in Jigawa State for sale.
The Police Command has urged tricycle operators and members of the public to remain vigilant, warning against accepting items from strangers and advising prompt reporting of suspicious activities.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
