Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Tuesday held a strategic closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he outlined key priorities of his administration, with strong emphasis on security, infrastructure development and strengthened collaboration with the Federal Government.

The meeting was part of ongoing efforts by the Kano State Government to tackle critical challenges facing the state while advancing its broader development agenda.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf briefed President Tinubu on pressing security concerns in Kano, particularly the deteriorating situation in some local government areas.

The governor specifically referenced the recent tragic killing of a housewife and her children, describing the incident as a stark reminder of the urgent need to reinforce security measures to safeguard lives and property.

Governor Yusuf highlighted the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps as a key complement to conventional security agencies, noting its effectiveness in grassroots intelligence gathering and community based policing. He appealed for stronger collaboration and support from federal security institutions to boost operations, curb criminal activities and restore public confidence in affected communities.

On infrastructure development, the governor presented Kano’s mega projects agenda, stressing the importance of completing strategic projects capable of driving economic growth and creating jobs. He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the Federal Government’s intervention on the Wujuwuju Road project, describing it as critical to improving connectivity and unlocking economic opportunities.

Governor Yusuf also sought the President’s support in accelerating other federal projects in the state to ensure Kano benefits fully from national programmes and investments.

In his response, President Tinubu assured the governor of the Federal Government’s readiness to work closely with the Kano State Government to address security challenges and promote sustainable development. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strong partnerships with states aimed at improving the welfare and safety of Nigerians.
