Kano Executive Council Approves ₦8.53bn for Infrastructure, Health, Water and Social Projects

The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total of ₦8.53 billion for the execution of key infrastructure, healthcare, education, water supply and social welfare projects across the state.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the approvals cut across several Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and are aimed at strengthening service delivery, public safety and socio-economic development.

According to him, a major portion of the approval is ₦3.1 billion allocated for the supply of non-ferrous aluminium sulphate (alum) for water treatment across the state for six months in 2026, under the Ministry of Water Resources.

The Council also approved ₦1.7 billion for the construction of a two-coat surface-dressed road linking Chiromawa and Garun Babba in Garun Malam Local Government Area.

Other significant approvals include ₦677.5 million for the reconstruction, rehabilitation and renovation of Rogo General Hospital following a recent fire outbreak, as well as ₦520 million for the procurement of a CT scan machine at the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.

In the area of urban infrastructure, ₦660.3 million was approved for drainage construction and interlocking works in Ayagi-Aisami, Bakin Ruwa Ward of Dala Local Government Area.

Comrade Waiya further disclosed that funds were also approved for the construction of an orphanage hostel at the Nassarawa Children’s Home, renovation of Government Junior Secondary School (GJSS) Tatsawarki in Kumbotso Local Government Area, and compensation for farmlands affected by the construction of five small earth dams across selected local government areas.

Additionally, the Council sanctioned the construction of the Arewa Knot and multi-tiered fountains at Alfurqan and Baban Gwari roundabouts to enhance the aesthetic outlook of the state capital.

He explained that the approvals were granted at the 37th Executive Council meeting held on Thursday, January 16, 2026, at the Malam Aminu Kano House, the Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.

In another development, the Council approved ₦251.9 million as compensation for properties affected by the construction of a five-kilometre dualised road in Bagwai Local Government Area.

On policy matters, the Executive Council expressed serious concern over the death of a female patient at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, where a pair of scissors was reportedly left in her abdomen during surgery.

The Council described the incident as a grave act of negligence, assured the public that investigations would be thoroughly pursued, and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.

The Council also acknowledged the strategic importance of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project and approved the phased development of the AKK Industrial Layout in Tamburawa, with Phase I focusing on basic infrastructure and perimeter fencing.

Furthermore, approval was granted for the comprehensive upgrade of facilities at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Karaye to address long-standing structural challenges and improve the welfare and safety of corps members serving in the state.

The Kano State Government reaffirmed its commitment to prudent resource management and sustained investment in projects that directly improve the lives and wellbeing of residents across the state.
