The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Muhammed Wase, has lauded troops for their courage, professionalism, and dedication during a recent operation against bandits in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

Major General Wase gave the commendation on Tuesday during an operational assessment visit to frontline troops stationed at Farin Ruwa and Tsaure Forward Operating Bases in Shanono.

The visit followed the November 2 bandit incursion in the area, which claimed the lives of two security personnel and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force. The GOC’s mission was to evaluate the current security situation, encourage the troops, and ensure enhanced coordination in ongoing counter-banditry efforts.

During the visit, General Wase interacted with the soldiers, listened to their challenges, and provided operational guidance aimed at improving their effectiveness. He assured them of the continued support of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, to guarantee operational success and lasting peace in the region.

The GOC also toured the border area between Kano and Katsina States, identified as a major bandits’ crossing route, urging troops to remain alert, maintain high operational tempo, and sustain collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders.

Troops engaged in the operation include personnel from 3 Brigade, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Civilian Joint Task Force.

Later, Major General Wase paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Government House, where they discussed security-related matters and exchanged souvenirs.
