Kano CP Orders Crackdown on Thugs, Relocates Area Commander to Troubled Communities

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered an immediate crackdown on thugs and other criminal elements following reports of disturbances and insecurity in parts of the state.

CP Bakori gave the directive on Thursday during a strategic security engagement with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth representatives, vigilante groups and other stakeholders from Gobirawa, Bachirawa, Kurna, Tudun Fulani, Chiromawa, Jajira, Dausayi, Mayanka and neighbouring communities.

In a statement by the  Police Public Relations Officer CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the meeting was part of the Command’s proactive community-policing strategy aimed at addressing rising concerns over thuggery, violence and other activities threatening public peace in the affected areas.

Addressing the stakeholders, the Commissioner stressed that maintaining security was a collective responsibility requiring strong cooperation between the Police and local communities.

“We cannot police effectively without the support of the community. The Command is committed to protecting lives and property in these communities and environs. But we need your cooperation. Security is everybody’s business,” Bakori said.

As part of measures to restore normalcy, the Commissioner directed the Area Commander, Dala, ACP Maina Ngari, to immediately relocate to the affected areas.

He also ordered all Tactical Commanders to develop and implement coordinated operations to identify and arrest individuals responsible for acts of violence, intimidation and other breaches of public order.

Bakori warned that the Command would not tolerate criminal activities, including drug-related offences, and assured residents that increased patrols and visibility policing would be sustained across the communities.

The District Head of Ungogo, Alhaji Nura Magaji Rafin Kano, commended the Commissioner for his prompt intervention and pledged the support of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and encouraging residents to cooperate with security agencies.

The Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Community Policing, Hajia Maimuna Umar Sheriff, also assured the Police of the state government’s support. She urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against activities capable of disrupting public order.

Representing the Chairman of Dala Local Government Area, Hon. Ibrahim Sulaiman Dan-Isle, expressed the council’s continued support for security initiatives, while Community Vigilante Commander, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi Baban Lili, pledged the cooperation of vigilante and community support groups in efforts to rid the areas of criminal elements.

Stakeholders further proposed measures including the activation of neighbourhood watch groups, youth sensitisation programmes and regular dialogue between communities and Divisional Police Officers.

CP Bakori reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on criminality and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.

The Kano State Police Command said it remains committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring a safe and peaceful environment across the state.
