Kano Police Arrest Four, Seize Large Haul of Suspected Cannabis in Intelligence-Led Operations

The Kano State Police Command has recorded major successes in its fight against drug trafficking and abuse, arresting four suspects and recovering a significant quantity of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa during coordinated, intelligence-led operations across the state.

Acting in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, on sustained visibility patrols, officers attached to the Fagge Police Division intercepted a tricycle at Triumph Roundabout on January 25, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m. A search of the vehicle revealed two sacks containing 157 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa. Two suspects, Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both from Kulliya Village in Bunkure Local Government Area, were arrested at the scene.

In a separate operation on January 24, 2026, at about 5:25 p.m., the Command’s Rapid Response Team (RRT), acting under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, conducted raids on identified black spots within the Kano metropolitan area. The operation led to the arrest of Usman Hamisu, 22, and Auwal Abdullahi, 25. Items recovered from the suspects included 40 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, 20 pieces of rubber solutions, half a roll of suspected cannabis, and 10 small bottles of a substance locally known as “Suck and Die.”

Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, praised their professionalism and dedication.
