Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on social media influencers especially supporters of the current administration to ensure their content remains responsible, respectful and dignified in the interest of national unity and development.
The call was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf made the appeal during the Motorcycle Empowerment Programme for Social Media Influencers, held at the Government House, Kano. The programme brought together influencers selected from the state’s 44 Local Government Areas.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the governor stressed that freedom of expression must be exercised within the bounds of ethics and decency.
“I call on you to exercise responsibility, respect and dignity in your content creation.
Freedom of expression must be guided by ethics, decency and respect for others,” the governor said.
He urged influencers to deploy social media as a tool for positive engagement rather than division.
“Let us use social media as a force for unity, enlightenment, development and positive change—not as a tool for abuse, hatred or division. I also urge you to always put Kano first in all your content,” he added.
Governor Yusuf further encouraged the beneficiaries to objectively project the achievements and policies of his administration, noting that effective collaboration with the media is critical to attaining sustainable development goals.
The event was attended by top government officials, media executives and political stakeholders from across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Abubakar Sanusi from Fagge Local Government Area commended the governor for recognising the role of social media influencers and supporting them through empowerment initiatives. He assured that beneficiaries would mobilise residents to showcase the numerous projects and programmes executed by the Yusuf-led administration.
