Kano Govt. donates N250m equipment to 2 skills acquisition centresThe Kano State Government has donated state-of-the-art equipment worth N250 million to two skills acquisition centres in Kano Municipal and Gwale Local Government Areas (LGAs).These centres were established by community members to empower youths with skills in leather processing.Dr Yusuf Kofarmata, Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, announced the donation while inaugurating the centres in Kano on Tuesday.Kofarmata said that Gov. Abba Yusuf had approved the donation of 26 equipment including leather processing machines and tools, to support the two skills acquisition centres.He explained that the Gwale centre was built by Governor Yusuf himself, given its location in his constituency.While the construction of the Kofarmata skill acquisition centre in Municipal Local Government Area was facilitated by Dr Yakubu Adam, Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.He explained that the donation included 26 equipment such as leather processing machines and tools.“It is projected that 500 youths will benefit from the centres, with 300 and 200 beneficiaries drawn from Gwale and Kano Municipal centres.“This donation aligns with Governor Abba Yusuf’s commitment to empowering youths and promoting economic development in the state,” he said.According to him, the centres will provide training in leather processing and other vocational skills, thereby enhancing employability and entrepreneurship among young people in the affected LGAs and beyond.Kofarmata said that the skills acquisition centres were expected to have a positive impact on the communities, reducing youth restiveness and promoting economic growth.“They will do this by equipping youths with valuable skills, the centres will contribute to the state’s development and help address unemployment challenges,” he said.Kofarmata, announced that registration for the new intake at the skills acquisition centres would begin next month.The centres will serve specific communities with Kano Municipal centre covering areas such as Kofarmata and Gwale centre covering Dorayi and Gwale, among others.
