Kano Govt Pledges Stronger Partnership with Civil Society to Deepen Good Governance

The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to building a stronger, more harmonious relationship with civil society organisations (CSOs) as part of its drive to entrench good governance and active citizen participation.Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made the pledge at the opening of a two-day Kano State Civil Society Conference, organised by the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in Kano.Represented by his deputy, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, the governor described civil society as a vital watchdog in ensuring transparency and accountability.

He urged CSOs to remain dedicated, avoid corruption, and shun sentiments in the course of their daily activities.“

Civil society organisations have a critical role to play in tracking how governance is being handled,” Gwarzo said on the governor’s behalf. “We appeal to you to help enlighten the public on the dangers of social vices such as thuggery and the sharing of fake news, and to promote peace and harmony across the state.”

Governor Yusuf noted that the conference offered a unique platform for government officials, academics, and civil society actors to exchange ideas on moving the state forward.Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, said the forum was designed to enhance effective service delivery and strengthen collaboration between government and non-state actors.

“The administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is running a transparent government and welcomes genuine criticism aimed at improving service delivery,” “We urge participants to deliberate on issues that will deepen good governance and cement a mutual working relationship between CSOs and government.

”The event, themed “Empowering CSOs in Kano for Sustainable, Active Democratic Participation and Grassroots Development,” drew participants from a wide range of organisations operating within and outside the state.
