The Kano State Police Command has recovered a Hyundai vehicle stolen from the premises of St. Thomas Church along Airport Road, Kano, and handed it over to its rightful owner.

The vehicle, a gold-coloured Hyundai with registration number LAGOS AA 444 BL, was reportedly stolen on Sunday, October 25, 2026, while its owner, identified as Uchenna Emmanuel, was attending church service.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the victim had parked the vehicle within the church premises at about 11:00 a.m. before discovering its disappearance after the service.

Following the report, operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS), acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately launched an intelligence-led operation to track down the stolen vehicle.

The police said the vehicle was subsequently discovered on October 26, 2026, parked within the premises of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) by unidentified persons.

Operatives reportedly mounted surveillance in an attempt to apprehend whoever had abandoned the vehicle, but no one came forward to claim it.

The vehicle was eventually recovered on October 28 and taken to the Special Intervention Squad’s office for investigation before being handed over to its owner.

The vehicle owner commended the Kano State Police Command for its prompt response, professionalism and commitment, expressing appreciation for the successful recovery of his car.

He also urged vehicle owners to adopt adequate security measures, particularly when parking in public places such as churches, markets and hospitals.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, appreciated residents of the state for their continued support and cooperation with the police.

He further advised motorists to install security devices, including vehicle trackers and steering or pedal locks, while ensuring that their vehicles are properly locked whenever parked.

The police, however, disclosed that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, adding that investigations into the incident were continuing.
