The Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, has partnered with the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) on its Plant One Million Trees (P1MT) campaign aimed at tackling climate change and promoting environmental sustainability across Northern Nigeria.

As part of the partnership, the university has donated 20,000 tree seedlings for planting, particularly in the Wudil area, during the campaign.

The Director of the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (CC&ER), Prof. Aliyu Baba Nabegu, disclosed this in a letter dated October 8, 2026, responding to CITAD’s request for collaboration on the initiative.

Nabegu said the centre was committed to supporting activities designed to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote environmental sustainability.

He said the partnership with CITAD was in line with the centre’s mandate to participate in initiatives addressing climate change and environmental challenges.

“Our centre is mandated, among others, to participate in all activities relating to mitigation of climate change impacts and ensure sustainability of the global environment,” Nabegu said.

He added that ADUSTECH Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, had approved the donation of 20,000 seedlings as the university’s contribution to the campaign.

“As part of our contribution to this important campaign, and to demonstrate our partnership, our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, has graciously donated 20,000 seedlings to be used especially in the Wudil area during the campaign,” he said.

The director expressed optimism that the partnership would deepen cooperation between ADUSTECH and CITAD in addressing environmental challenges and advancing sustainability.

He said the collaboration would help strengthen the relationship between the two institutions in their efforts to safeguard the environment for future generations.

CITAD launched the Plant One Million Trees (P1MT) campaign in September, with the goal of facilitating the planting, protection and restoration of one million indigenous trees across Northern Nigeria within one year.

The initiative seeks to mobilise individuals, communities, schools, institutions, organisations and other stakeholders to plant and nurture trees as part of efforts to combat climate change, restore degraded ecosystems and improve environmental resilience.

Participants are also encouraged to document their tree-planting activities through the campaign’s digital platform, allowing progress to be tracked throughout the initiative.

With ADUSTECH’s commitment of 20,000 seedlings, the university becomes an important institutional partner in CITAD’s drive to expand tree cover and strengthen climate action across Northern Nigeria.
