The Director-General of the Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA), Haj. Fatima Abubakar Abdullahi (Amneef), has called on Nigerians to uphold national unity, patriotism and collective responsibility as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Abdullahi, in a goodwill message to commemorate the anniversary, congratulated Nigerians, particularly the people of Kano State, while urging continued support for the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s efforts to protect poor and vulnerable citizens.

She described the anniversary as an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey since independence, celebrate its rich cultural heritage and renew their commitment to building a peaceful, inclusive and prosperous nation.

According to her, this year’s theme, “A Celebration of Identity, Culture, and Possibility,” reflects Nigeria’s diversity, heritage and enormous potential.

The KASPA DG said the country’s diversity remained a major strength that could be harnessed to promote collective development and national progress.

She stressed that development should not be measured solely by economic growth, but should also involve deliberate policies and programmes aimed at protecting vulnerable citizens, expanding opportunities and ensuring that disadvantaged households benefit from development.

Abdullahi further called on citizens to support the Kano State Government’s efforts to strengthen social protection systems and improve the welfare of poor and vulnerable households across the state.

She emphasised that protecting vulnerable citizens was a shared responsibility requiring collaboration among government institutions, communities, development partners, the private sector and citizens.

“Protecting the vulnerable is a shared responsibility, and it is the surest foundation for lasting peace, social stability and sustainable development,” she said.

The KASPA DG expressed optimism that Nigeria would continue to make progress towards a more inclusive and prosperous future, given its vast human and natural resources, cultural diversity and resilient population.

She also prayed for lasting peace, stability and prosperity for the country and its citizens.

“Happy 66th Independence Anniversary to all Nigerians,” she said.
